Data content

The report provides information on the recipients of daily allowances for parents and the benefits paid, by the child’s year of birth. The statistics show the number of individuals or families who have received daily allowances for parents by the end of the reference period for a child born in a given year. The figures include all days for which daily allowances for parents have been paid and benefits in euro paid to the recipient from the birth of the child until the end of the reference period. For example, the number of recipients of daily allowances for parents and the benefits paid for children born in 2023 are calculated cumulatively from the first payment until the children have reached the age of two, i.e. until the end of 2025.

The report comprises data as of 1 August 2022, when the family leave reform came into force. The data only include daily allowances for parents paid under the new legislation. The new daily allowances have been paid to parents of children whose due date was 4 September 2022 or later.

Recipients are individuals who have received daily allowances for parents. A family is made up of the individuals who have received benefits for a specific pregnancy. If a woman gives birth twice in the same year, the family is recorded twice in the statistics.

The default selection is benefits paid for children born two years previously. For example, children born in 2022 are the default selection until the end of 2024.

The statistics are based on the date of payment for the benefit.
