Evaluation of Effectiveness of the Finnish Student Health Service in 2019–2025: A Register-Based Study
The aim of the research project is to produce information on the student healthcare services provided by the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) and to evaluate the differences in productivity and availability between service units and student groups. Furthermore, the goal is to study how using FSHS’ services is linked to benefits and other services and whether register-based impact assessment tools could be produced for student healthcare. This study generates information on how different services and benefits support students’ health, ability to study, and academic performance, in addition to which it helps improve FSHS’ service model and customer understanding.
The study comprises two phases: The first phase includes two data sets (1a and 1b) from 2019–2020. The target population in material 1a includes university students with the right to use FSHS’ services, and material 1b consists of students in universities of applied sciences, whose primary healthcare unit is in public healthcare. In the second phase, the other target population comprises students who have the right to use FSHS’ services in 2021–2025. The data in the second phase accumulates, and the extraction, analysis, and results are generated annually. Data collected from other register holders (e.g., the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare’s Hilmo, Kela’s benefit and insurance registers, and the Virta database) are combined with out data sets.
